How sound is the Hadith: "Allah has not sent a prophet except that the lifespan of his nation is half the lifespan of the prophet who preceded him. Indeed, Isa ibn Maryam was among the Children of Israel for forty years, and these are twenty years for me, and I shall die this year"? And is there any authentic report that specifies the duration of Isa's (peace be upon him) stay among his people?

The hadith stating that Allah did not send a prophet except that he lived half the lifespan of the prophet who preceded him, and that Jesus (peace be upon him) lived 40 years among his people, is not authentically transmitted from Umm Habiba (may Allah be pleased with her). It has been narrated in a similar vein through four chains of transmission from Aisha, Zayd ibn Arqam, Hudhayfah ibn Usayd, and Ibrahim al-Nakhai. However, all these chains are weak and not authentic.

What is preserved from Aisha's hadith concerning this meaning does not mention the age of a prophet in comparison to the one before him, nor does it mention Jesus (peace be upon him).

There is an oddity in the text (matn) because the statement that every prophet lived half the lifespan of the prophet before him leads to illogical and unquantifiable numbers when calculating the number of prophets and messengers mentioned.
