What about someone who did not fast in the last Ramadan due to pregnancy, and did not fast during this period due to breastfeeding: should she feed the poor for the days she missed, or make them up, or combine both?
If a pregnant or breastfeeding woman breaks her fast in solely out of fear for her child, she is required to make up the missed days (qada') and offer a (expiatory feeding). However, if she fears for herself only, or for herself and her child, she is required to make up the missed days (qada') without fidyah. Fear is determined through experience, or by the information from a trustworthy doctor, or by strong presumption. If the making up of missed days (qada') is delayed until the next Ramadan due to a valid excuse, then nothing further is required of her. But if it is delayed without a valid excuse, then she must make up the missed days (qada') along with a fidyah of feeding one poor person for each day.
