Is it permissible to raise a guard dog in an apartment with the family, for the purpose of increasing income and avoiding the wife's mixed-gender work environment, knowing the difficulty of adapting living and working conditions to suit the rulings on raising dogs?

It is permissible to own a dog for guarding and working purposes, because owning it for benefit and utility is not prohibited, according to the preponderant opinion of the scholars. What is forbidden is keeping it for amusement and play without any benefit or need. Ibn Abd al-Barr said in "Al-Tamheed": "And in the meaning of this Hadith, in my opinion, is the permissibility of owning dogs for all benefits, and for warding off harm, if a person needs that... What is disliked from that is owning them for no benefit or urgent need." And there is no doubt that adopting this opinion is better than the wife going out to work in unsuitable environments.
