To what extent is a two-rak'ah prayer between Maghrib and 'Isha on Thursday night sound, if one recites Surat Al-Fatihah once, Ayatul-Kursi five times, Surat Al-Ikhlas five times, and Al-Mu'awwidhatayn five times, then seeks forgiveness fifteen times and dedicates the reward thereof to one's parents, and that this fulfills their rights?

Al-Ghazali and Abu Talib al-Makki mentioned a hadith with a very weak and denounced chain of transmission. Scholars have differed regarding whether the reward for righteous deeds reaches the deceased. The preponderant opinion is that nothing reaches the deceased except what has been explicitly mentioned in the Sunnah, such as Hajj, Umrah, charity, and fasting for one who died with unfulfilled fasts. The best of these is supplication. A Muslim must be keen to act upon what has been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and be wary of weak and fabricated hadiths.
