Is it permissible for a working woman whose husband takes half her salary to take from his money without his knowledge to meet her essential needs and those of her children, and does her work absolve him of the responsibility to spend on her?

A husband may prevent his wife from working. If he permits her [to work] in exchange for a portion of her salary, she must adhere to the agreement as long as she has consented to it. It is not permissible for the husband to take his wife's money by way of embarrassment [i.e., through veiled coercion]. The wife's work does not waive her right and the right of her children to maintenance and housing. If the husband does not provide his wife and children their right to maintenance or restricts them, she may take from his money without his knowledge, within reasonable bounds.
