What is the ruling on using commercial software unlawfully to produce new programs, and what is the ruling on being employed and working in companies that use such software unlawfully?

Contemporary scholars differ on the ruling concerning copying software without the owner's permission, holding three views: absolute prohibition, which is the fatwa adopted by IslamWeb; absolute permissibility; and permissibility for personal use but not for commercial purposes. Computer programs differ from carpentry tools because the former require significant effort from their owners to develop them, whereas the latter require the same effort from everyone to manufacture them.
