The answer

Visiting graves is legislated for admonition, remembrance of the Hereafter, and benefiting the deceased through greetings, supplication, and seeking forgiveness for them. It is sunnah to raise one's hands in supplication when visiting graves, but one should face the Kaaba, not the graves, when supplicating. It is not permissible to walk between the graves of Muslims with footwear.
