Did the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, offer the funeral prayer for Hamza and those slain in the Battle of Uhud, even though martyrs of battle are not prayed over?

Scholars have differed regarding the washing and praying over of a battle martyr. The majority view is that they are neither washed nor prayed over, while others hold that they are to be washed and prayed over. A third group maintains that they are not washed but are prayed over.

The majority relies on the hadith of Jabir, which states that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered the martyrs of Uhud to be buried with their blood, and he neither prayed over them nor had them washed.

Those who advocate for praying over them cite several hadiths, including one narrated by Uqbah ibn Amir, which states that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed over the martyrs of Uhud.

The majority responded to the hadiths about praying over them by stating that they are weak or subject to interpretation. They argue that "praying" in these instances refers to supplication (dua') and not the well-known funeral prayer, given that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed over them eight years after their burial.

Based on the above, the correct view is that a battle martyr is neither washed nor prayed over.
