A married woman, four years into her marriage, is unhappy due to an overbearing husband who doesn't forgive her mistakes. Her friend offered to pay for a non-obligatory Hajj. After the husband agreed and arrangements were made, he withdrew his permission due to minor disagreements. The wife is torn between pleasing her friend, who will lose the visa, and obeying her husband. She wonders about the legitimacy of his actions.

A husband must treat his wife with kindness and accept her good character, even if he dislikes some of it. He should overlook her mistakes if she repents.

It is not permissible for a woman to travel for Hajj or anything else except with a mahram, whether her husband permits it or not, even for the obligatory Hajj. A mahram is: her husband, or someone she is permanently forbidden to marry due to kinship, suckling, or marriage affinity.

Also, it is not permissible for a woman to travel except with her husband's permission. Scholars have agreed that she is not permitted to go for a voluntary Hajj except with his permission. The husband has the right to withdraw his permission before she enters into ihram. If she has entered into ihram, he is not permitted to withdraw it.
