The answer

The husband has wronged and oppressed you by withholding financial support and failing to be just between you and his first wife. Justice in division (of time) and lodging between wives is an absolute obligation. The past financial support (nafaqa) is a fixed debt upon him, which you are entitled to claim even after divorce. As for the punishment in the hereafter for one who fails to be just, it is what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, indicated: "Whoever has two wives and inclines to one of them over the other, will come on the Day of Resurrection with one of his sides leaning." As for the worldly punishment for one who oppresses his wife and deprives her of her right to financial support and equitable division, it is the punishment of the oppressive wrongdoer. Severe warnings have been issued for people of oppression and wrongdoing in this world before the hereafter.
