The answer

Islam encourages moderation in worldly matters and asceticism, and warns against excessive eating and drinking. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "No human ever filled a vessel worse than his stomach. A few morsels are sufficient for the son of Adam to keep his back straight. But if he must needs fill it, then one third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for his breath."

Nevertheless, Islam commanded eating and drinking in moderation without extravagance. Allah Almighty says: {O Children of Adam! Take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.}

The phrases mentioned in the question about eating less with moderation are correct. However, the hadith "Dress yourselves..." and the hadith "He whose food is little..." have no basis and are weak.

Most scholars dislike singling out anyone other than prophets for prayers and salutations. Rather, prayers and salutations are invoked upon the prophets, satisfaction is sought for the Companions, and mercy is invoked for others. Prayers and salutations are invoked upon them as a follow-up to the prophets.
