The question

What is the authenticity of the Hadith Qudsi that begins with: "My servant, I have afflicted you not because you are insignificant to Me, but because of your status, and by My might and majesty, I have not afflicted a person with a child, or illness, or wealth, and he was patient, and sought recompense [from Allah], and established prayer..."?

The answer

The aforementioned hadith was not found in the books of the people of knowledge. The hadith with its meaning is the hadith of Anas from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in which Allah will apologize to His servant on the Day of Resurrection and say to him: "By My Glory and My Majesty, I did not withhold the world from you because of your insignificance to Me, but because of the honor and فضيلة (virtue/فضل) I have prepared for you. Go forth, My servant, to these rows, and whoever fed you for My sake, or clothed you for My sake, seeking My countenance thereby, take him by his hand, for he is yours." So the servant will traverse the rows and take the hand of whoever was good to him and admit him into Paradise. Al-Iraqi said that Abu al-Shaykh narrated it in Kitab al-Thawab with a weak chain of transmission.
