Is it permissible to insert an IUD after four Cesarean deliveries, and to refuse a sterilization procedure out of concern for birth control?

It is not permissible to completely cut off progeny unless the pregnancy poses a danger to the mother's life or she suffers from illnesses and hardships because of it that she cannot bear, and there is no other way to prevent pregnancy. As for temporary contraception for a need, there is no harm in it. The Islamic Fiqh Academy has ruled the prohibition of permanently eliminating the ability to procreate except out of necessity, according to its legitimate standards, and the permissibility of temporary birth control for the purpose of spacing pregnancies or stopping them for a certain period if there is a religiously valid need, provided that no harm results, that the method is lawful, and that it does not infringe upon an existing pregnancy. The general rule is that it is not permissible to insert an IUD except out of necessity or a compelling need.
