What are the means that aid in patience when despair takes hold of a person, and they feel that their faith is weak, in light of Allah's saying: "Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people"?

A Muslim must strive to have a good opinion of Allah and trust Him, for He is the Lord of grace and benevolence. Allah, the Exalted, said: "I am as My servant thinks of Me." Despair and hopelessness in Allah's mercy are forbidden.

Whatever Allah decrees for the believer is good for him. If good befalls him, he gives thanks, and if adversity befalls him, he perseveres, and both are good for him.

The response to a supplication does not necessarily mean granting the supplicant exactly what he asked for. Rather, it comes in one of three ways: expediting the supplication, reserving it for the Hereafter, or averting an equivalent evil.

Allah may withhold from His servant what he requested due to a wisdom known to Him. A Muslim should refrain from comparing his situation to those who are superior to him in worldly matters, and instead look to those who are beneath him, so that his appreciation for Allah's blessings upon him may increase.
