The answer

The spouses should cooperate in the affairs of marital life. Islamic law does not oblige the wife to work outside the home, earn money, spend, or purchase household necessities. All of that is the husband's responsibility and duty. The wife's duty is to manage household affairs and care for the children. This aims at integration and understanding between the spouses, and preventing Satan from corrupting their relationship. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Iblis places his throne on water, then he dispatches his detachments. The closest among them to him in rank are the greatest in temptation. One of them comes and says: 'I did such and such.' He says: 'You did nothing.' Then one of them comes and says: 'I did not leave him until I separated him from his wife.' He says: 'He brings him closer to him and says: 'Yes, you are the one!'"
