We advise seeking the mediation of a person of standing with the father so that he agrees to the marriage, or delegates someone else to finalize the marriage contract. If this is not possible, the daughter should refer her case to the judge, who will then compel the father to agree to the marriage, or the judge will personally handle the marriage. The prevention of marriage by a guardian (adhl) is forbidden by Islamic law, and the guardian's permission is a condition for the validity of the marriage according to the majority of scholars.
