Is it permissible to distribute an admonition attributed to Ibn Abbas concerning the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, which states: "O people, you have an end, so reach your end. And you have landmarks, so reach your landmarks. Indeed, the believer is between two fears: an appointed term that has passed, and he knows not what Allah will do concerning it; and an appointed term that remains, and he knows not what Allah will decree concerning it. So let the servant take provision from himself for himself, and from his worldly life for his Hereafter, and from life before death. For by Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, there is no return for seeking forgiveness after death, and after this world there is nothing but either Paradise or Hell"; without verifying its chain of narration, and should reliance in this matter be placed on the text or the chain of narration?
Al-Hafiz al-Iraqi said that the hadith: "The believer is between two fears: between a past term..." was narrated by al-Bayhaqi in Al-Shu'ab from the hadith of Al-Hasan, from a man among the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and it contains an interruption. Ibn al-Mubarak mentioned it in Kitab al-Zuhd as a balagh (a narration reaching him without a full chain), and the author of Al-Firdaws mentioned it from the hadith of Jabir. The hadith is weak, and there is no narration of it attributed to Ibn Abbas. However, it contains great meanings, and it is permissible to use it as a good admonition without attributing it to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
