Did Adam (peace be upon him) descend twice - from Paradise to the lowest heaven and then to Earth - or was there originally only one descent?

The issue of the Garden from which Adam, peace be upon him, was cast down is a matter of disagreement among scholars. Some said it was the Garden of Eternity in heaven, while others said it was a garden on Earth. Some abstained from expressing an opinion on the matter.

The majority of scholars held that it was the Garden of Eternity in heaven, while others said it was not the Garden of Eternity. This opinion is narrated from some of the Salaf and some imams.

As for the repeated mention of the descent in the Holy Quran, some exegetes believe that the first descent was from the Garden to the lowest heaven, and the second was from the lowest heaven to Earth.

However, the more correct view is that the repetition is verbal for emphasis, and each time a different ruling was associated with it. The first descent was linked to the enmity between Adam and Iblis and their settling on Earth, while the second was linked to explaining the path of guidance and misery.
