What is the explanation of the hadith: "Supplication is worship"?

The meaning of supplication (du'a) is worship (ibadah), and it is of two types: du'a of asking and seeking (mas'alah wa talab), and du'a of worship (ibadah). Du'a of asking is to ask Allah for what benefits and to ward off what harms. Du'a of worship is for a person to be a worshipper of Allah Almighty through any type of worship. The word "du'a" in the Holy Quran often encompasses both meanings together because they are intertwined. For every person who asks Allah with his tongue is a worshipper of Him, and every worshipper seeks reward and salvation from Allah. The prophetic hadith "Supplication is worship" and the noble verse, "And your Lord said: 'Call upon Me; I will respond to you,'" have been interpreted with both meanings simultaneously: "Worship Me and obey My command, and I will answer your supplication," and "Ask Me, and I will give you."
