Why is the husband granted superior rights over his wife that exceed those of her parents, and why must she obey him more than them?

A woman’s duty to her parents does not cease with her marriage; rather, she is still obligated to honor them, maintain ties with them, and treat them with kindness.

However, obedience to the husband takes precedence over obedience to parents when there is a conflict, because he has become the immediate leader and close guide. So, if her husband orders her to stay home and her father orders her to go out, or if her husband prevents her from visiting and her father orders her to visit, and the wife obeys her father and disobeys her husband, their relationship will deteriorate and may even lead to separation.

The Shari'ah has commanded the wife to obey her husband, as the soundness of marital life depends on this obedience. Allah Almighty says: "Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth."

For a daughter's complete upbringing, she should be taught that obedience to her husband comes first, that her happiness lies in obeying him, and that she has an example in her mother, who prioritized obeying her father over her own parents.
