What is the ruling on reciting the Holy Qur’an at graves and supplicating for the deceased and for oneself at the grave?

Reading the Qur’an at graves is an innovation (bid‘ah) that was not reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor from his Companions. Every innovation is misguidance. Muslims must emulate the righteous predecessors. As for supplicating for the deceased at their grave, there is no harm in it, such as saying: “O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him.” However, designating a specific place for supplication, such as supplicating for oneself at the grave, is considered an innovation unless there is a textual proof for it.
