Does anything befall me for fasting Thursday, the 12th of Dhul-Hijjah, and is it permissible to fast during the Days of Tashreeq, or is it only impermissible to fast on the first day of Eid?

The answer

It is forbidden to fast on the two Eid days (Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha) by scholarly consensus, just as it is forbidden to fast on the days of Tashreeq, which are the three days after Eid al-Adha, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The days of Tashreeq are days of eating, drinking, and remembrance of Allah." An exception to this is a pilgrim who does not find a sacrificial animal (hady); it is permissible for him to fast on the days of Tashreeq.
