Is it permissible for a widow to go to the hospital and uncover her face during transport solely for treatment?

The preponderant opinion is that a woman's face is 'awrah (private/uncoverable) and should not be exposed to non-mahram men unless there is a necessity. Her going to the hospital for treatment is not a necessity that permits uncovering the face, because she can go out while covering her face. It is permissible for a woman observing 'iddah (waiting period) after her husband's death to go out for treatment or similar necessities that cannot be delegated, based on the hadith narrated by Muslim from Jabir: "Yes, go and harvest your date palms, for perhaps you may give charity or do a good deed." A woman observing 'iddah after death is like a divorced woman in this ruling.
