What are the rights of a wife who despises her husband, cannot bear to live with him, and is unable to grant him his marital rights, and how should the presence of children between them be handled?

The wife must obey her husband and fulfill his rights as long as she is married to him. Her dislike for him does not justify her withholding these rights, just as the husband is not permitted to withhold his wife's rights if she fulfills hers. If the wife dislikes her husband and fears she will not fulfill his rights, she may request a khul', according to the hadith: "Will you return his garden to him?" She said, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Accept the garden and divorce her with a single divorce." Both spouses should strive for the stability and cohesion of the family. If one dislikes certain traits in the other, they should consider their positive qualities. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A believing man should not hate a believing woman; if he dislikes a certain trait in her, he will be pleased with another." Love alone is not the sole basis for building homes; rather, good companionship and other interests, such as raising children, are also important.
