The answer

The elder brother deserves reverence and respect, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "He is not of us who does not show mercy to our young ones and revere our old ones." And the elder brother is in the position of a father, according to a weak hadith.

However, there is no religious evidence that one who obeys the elder brother is rewarded, and one who disobeys him is sinful. Rather, what is established is the obligation to obey parents, within its prescribed Islamic limits.
