The verse from Surat Fussilat was revealed concerning Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, as he remained steadfast in monotheism, unlike the polytheists. As for the verse from Surat Al-Sajdah, it was revealed concerning Ali ibn Abi Talib and Al-Walid ibn Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt, following a dispute between them in which Ali described Al-Walid as a transgressor.
