How authentic is the Hadith: "My Ummah is a 'merciful' Ummah; they enter their graves with sins like mountains, and they emerge from their graves having been forgiven through the استغفار (seeking forgiveness) of the living for the dead, and charities, and supplications, and recitation of the Qur'an, which the angels bring to them on plates of light, reddened with handkerchiefs of silk (sundus), and they say to one of them, 'This is a gift sent to you by so-and-so,' and he is pleased and rejoices at that"?

The aforementioned Hadith: “My nation is a nation that is shown mercy, whose repentance is accepted. They enter their graves with their sins and emerge from their graves without sins. Their sins are expiated from them by the supplication for forgiveness of the believers for them,” was weakened by Al-Albani due to the presence of fabricators in its chain of narration. As for the mention of angels bringing that on plates of light, there is nothing in the books of Sunnah to indicate it. The supplication for forgiveness of the living for the dead, their prayers, charity, and the dedication of the reward of the Qur’an to them, benefit the deceased.
