Is it permissible for a young woman who is convinced of the hijab, but whose parents reject it, to refuse the marriage proposal of a committed young man who wishes her to quit her studies and commit to the niqab, especially given that her parents' rejection of the hijab in general and the young woman's refusal to quit her studies and wear the niqab represent obstacles?

It is obligatory by consensus for a woman to cover her head, neck, forearms, and shins. A father must fear Allah and not prevent his daughter from wearing the hijab (definition). There is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator; therefore, it is not permissible for a girl to obey her father in abandoning the hijab unless she is forced to do so under beating or expulsion. We advise the young woman to convince her family to marry the religious young man, and after marriage, she and her husband should work together to implement modest dress and avoid mixing with the opposite sex. We advise the husband to be wise and flexible, not to stipulate what causes hardship, and to begin gradually with the matter of hijab.
