Were the writers of the four Gospels among the disciples of Jesus, peace be upon him?

The four Gospels well-known among Christians were written by only two direct disciples of Christ: Matthew and John. Mark and Luke were not among them. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that the Torah and Gospel currently in the possession of the People of the Book were not transmitted authentically from Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them), and that the Gospels they possess were neither written by Christ nor dictated by him, but rather written by these individuals after Christ's ascension.

Ibn Hazm said: "The Gospels and all other Christian books are not from Allah nor from Christ. They do not claim that these books were revealed by Allah to Christ. Rather, they are four historical accounts compiled by four men at different times."
