Is it obligatory to respect the copyrights of a game or digital media containing music? And is one sinful who obtains it unofficially or plays it with the sound muted if everything other than the music is permissible? And does the religion or country of the producers affect this ruling?

The rights of innovation and invention are protected by Islamic law, and it is not permissible to infringe upon them. This applies to both Muslims and non-belligerent disbelievers, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) sayings: "Muslims are bound by their conditions," "The wealth of a Muslim is not lawful except with his willing consent," and "Whoever precedes to a permissible thing has more right to it." Therefore, if the game is acquired through lawful means and the music can be turned off, then playing it is permissible.
