What is the ruling on submitting written requests on parchments to the occupant of a grave, and is this considered explicit Shirk?

Supplicating to the occupant of a grave or seeking their aid is major shirk that expels one from the fold of Islam, because it is an act of directing worship to other than Allah the Almighty. Allah the Almighty has called supplicating to others an act of worship, and Allah has forbidden Paradise to the polytheist. Moreover, supplicating to the dead avails nothing; rather, it causes harm and expels one from Islam.
