Is it permissible to take medicine capsules that contain pig gelatin, when alternatives would cause health problems and financial hardship?

If it is proven that porcine gelatin is used in capsules, then they are not [automatically] forbidden simply by that, due to the possibility of its transformation (istihalah) into another substance. However, if it is proven that the gelatin remains in its original impure state, then it is not permissible to use them except in cases of dire necessity, when no pure alternative is available; because necessities permit the forbidden.
