What is the ruling on taking a medicine prescribed by a doctor to treat rheumatism that contains gelatin?

If gelatin is sourced from an animal slaughtered according to Islamic law (dhakāh shar'iyyah), then it is pure and permissible to use. However, if it is sourced from a pig, a dead animal (maytah), or an animal not slaughtered according to Islamic law, then it is forbidden to use it for medical treatment. This is based on the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Indeed, Allah has made a cure for every disease, so seek treatment, but do not seek treatment with what is unlawful." And he also said: "Indeed, Allah has not made the cure for my Ummah in what He has forbidden to them." It is incumbent upon a Muslim to seek out what is lawful in their food and medicine.
