How can I be a friend in Allah?

Love for Allah means associating with people of righteousness and piety, where the bond between you is obedience to Allah and seeking His pleasure, so that you may thereby attain the shade of the Throne of the Most Merciful on the Day of Resurrection. What helps in this is recalling the insignificance of this world, and that the greatest benefit is the good that others offer through advice or kindness. For whoever loves Allah loves everyone who directs him to Allah. It is imperative to hold fast to such sisters, endure their harshness, and overlook their slips, for a believer does not see himself as having a right over anyone. The sign of this love is that it does not increase with kindness nor decrease with harshness.
