How can one reconcile the revelation of the two Mu'awwidhatayn in Mecca before the Hijra with the Prophet's (peace be upon him) affliction with magic in Medina after Hudaybiyyah? And did the Prophet's (peace be upon him) diligence in reciting them change before and after the magic?

Scholars have differed regarding whether the two Surahs of Refuge (Al-Mu'awwidhatayn) are Makkan or Medinan. A group of scholars affirmed their Makkan origin, citing the narration from Ibn 'Abbas as their evidence. Others affirmed their Medinan origin, citing the story of Labīd ibn al-A'sam as their evidence.
