What is the ruling on continuing a marriage with a wife with whom problems are frequent, and the intention to divorce her and then retract it has been repeated?
Marriage is a solemn covenant, and both spouses must preserve it and work to maintain companionship and affection. Marital problems are natural and should be resolved wisely. Islamic law did not make divorce the first solution for a wife's disobedience; rather, it delayed it due to its harms. Efforts must be made for understanding between the spouses, with each keen to fulfill their duties. A wife is not permitted to leave her husband's house except with his permission or for a legitimate Islamic excuse. Divorce does not take effect through inner thoughts or intentions until the husband utters it. It is recommended to frequently recite the supplication: "Our Lord, grant us from our wives and our offspring comfort to our eyes and make us leaders for the righteous."
