What is the ruling of the Sharia regarding a wife who insists on seeking divorce despite reconciliation attempts made by the family?
A wife's request for divorce either has a legitimate Shar'i (Islamic legal) justification or it does not. If it has a legitimate justification, there is no blame upon her, and it is recommended for the husband to accede to her request, though reconciliation between them is preferred. However, if there is no legitimate justification, then it is forbidden for her to do so, and a severe warning has been reported concerning the one who requests divorce without cause. If the husband despairs of mending the situation and sees that divorce is in the best interest, then divorce might be better in cases of a bad marital relationship and constant disputes. The husband may also request compensation for divorcing her.
