What is the ruling on changing Allah's creation out of necessity to protect oneself from perishing?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a Muslim is compelled to commit something unlawful, there is no sin upon him, because "necessities permit the forbidden" and "necessity is estimated according to its measure." The evidence for this is the Almighty's saying: (But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.) and His saying: (while He has explained in detail to you what He has forbidden you, except what you are compelled to [eat or use]).
