Will God hold people accountable in this worldly life for their evil deeds, and why does this contradict the noble verse: "And if Allah were to apprehend mankind for what they earn, He would not leave upon the back of it any creature," and with the saying of one of the Tabi'in: "Indeed, I find the effect of my sin upon my riding animal on the road"?

Sins have an effect on the calamities and misfortunes that befall a servant in this world, for Allah Almighty says: "And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is because of what your hands have earned, and He pardons much." And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, a servant is deprived of provision because of a sin he commits." And if Allah were to punish people for all their sins, He would destroy them. Calamities are to remind the heedless and to expiate the sins of the believers, as Allah Almighty says: "And We will surely let them taste the nearer punishment short of the greater punishment that perhaps they will return." And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Calamity continues to afflict a believing man or woman in his body, his wealth, and his children until he meets Allah with no sin upon him."
