Participating with committee members in their social events is praiseworthy in Islamic law and falls under cooperating in righteousness and piety, provided they are free from شرعية prohibitions. The same applies to public celebrations if they are free from wrongdoing and their objectives are legitimate. As for competitions, they are permissible if they are among those in which Islamic law allows taking compensation, such as horse, camel, and archery competitions, or what strengthens Muslims and encourages seeking and spreading knowledge.
