What is the correct number of presentations on the Day of Resurrection, and are the hadiths reported in this regard that mention three presentations authentically narrated?

The presentation on the Day of Resurrection is established by texts from the Quran and Sunnah, as in the Almighty's saying: ﴿That Day, you will be exhibited; not one secret among you will remain hidden.﴾

As for the report about "the number of presentations being three," it has not been authentically attributed to the Prophet, peace be upon him. It was narrated in a Hadith by Ibn Majah from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him: "The people will be presented on the Day of Resurrection in three presentations. As for two presentations, they will be arguments and excuses, and as for the third, at that time the scrolls will fly into hands, some taking with their right hand, and some taking with their left." However, its chain of narration is weak due to discontinuity between Al-Hasan al-Basri and Abu Musa.

There has been disagreement regarding its chain of narration. Al-Tirmidhi narrated it from Abu Hurairah and said: "This Hadith is not sound because Al-Hasan did not hear from Abu Hurairah." Others narrated it as an utterance of some Companions (mawquf) attributed to Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, and this is the correct view, as stated by Al-Daraqutni and others.
