Is it permissible to revoke a gift for which the related promise has not been fulfilled, after having transferred a plot of land to my father without him providing the agreed-upon alternative housing?
A son is obligated to spend on his needy father. The father may take from his son's wealth what he needs and dispose of it, provided it does not harm the son, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "You and your wealth belong to your father," and "Indeed, the best of what you eat is from your own earning, and indeed, your children's wealth is from your earning, so eat it with pleasure." However, if what the father takes causes harm to the son, the son is not obligated to obey him, based on the Prophet's saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "There should be neither harm nor reciprocal harm." Consequently, the son may revoke a gift if it causes apparent harm and the father has not fulfilled his condition, while still observing the father's rights and showing him kindness.
