is not obligatory on salary until it reaches the (threshold) and a full hawl (lunar year) passes over it. The nisab is equivalent to 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. The amount of zakat that must be given is 2.5% (a quarter of a tenth). The recipients of zakat are the poor, the needy, and those mentioned with them in the verse from Surat At-. It is permissible to give zakat to needy relatives upon whom one is not obligated to spend, and it is permissible to give it to a needy husband.
