The answer

The Prophet, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, was a descendant of Ishmael, son of Abraham, peace be upon them both, by scholarly consensus. He, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, was the grandfather of Abraham from both his father's and mother's sides. A son was born to the Prophet, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, whom he named after his father Abraham. His paternal and maternal lineage traces back to his grandfather Kilab. Kilab was a descendant of Adnan, and Adnan was a descendant of Ishmael, peace be upon him. As for the lineage above Adnan, there is disagreement, but there is no dispute that Adnan was a descendant of Ishmael, peace be upon him.
