What should be done with a mosque imam who narrated a Hadith that has no basis, which is: "A letter from the Qur'an is better than Muhammad"?

The hadith (definition), "A letter from the Qur'an is better than Muhammad and his household," and the similar phrasing, "A verse from the Book of Allah is better than Muhammad and his household," are not authenticated. Ibn Hajar and Al-Sakhawi explicitly stated that they did not come across it. However, Al-Sakhawi and Al-Ajlouni mentioned narrations that support its meaning. It has been attributed to Shaykh al-Islam that he said it is not transmitted or that it is fabricated. The Imam who might have said it without knowing its inauthenticity should be advised.
