What is the evidence from the Salaf for accepting Hadiths that the Ummah received with acceptance, and no one before them received with acceptance?

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah pointed to the consensus of the People of Hadith (definition) on the authenticity of the hadiths in the two Sahih (definition) collections, due to the Ummah's acceptance of them, in terms of belief and practice. For the consensus of the Ummah cannot be upon error.

As for the Salaf's basis for accepting hadiths, it was through their memorization of the hadiths and their precise knowledge of the narrators' conditions. They would scrutinize the hadiths of each narrator and test their narrations by comparing them with the narrations of reliable narrators. They would meticulously follow the narrator's state in his hadith, not just his religious piety. Thus, they would discredit a narrator if his errors increased, or if he was inconsistent, or if he contradicted reliable narrators. They would memorize the biographies of narrators and their conditions with their chains of transmission, just as they memorized the hadiths.
