Is the Hadith that states: “The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, passed by a man and asked: ‘Who is this?’ Anas said: ‘He is mad.’ The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘Did you say mad? Indeed, the mad one is he who persists in disobedience, but this man is afflicted,’” authentic?

The aforementioned hadith (definition) has not been judged as authentic or weak, and it is not found in the Sahih (definition) or Sunan collections. It was narrated by Al-Dailami, Ibn Asakir, and Ibn Al-Najjar. These books are considered sources of weak hadith when they are the sole narrators of a hadith. Al-Suyuti mentioned that what is narrated in them is often weak. It was also narrated by Abu Bakr Al-Shafi'i with a weak chain of transmission.
