What are the obligations and prohibitions, and can they be summarized in a few lines, or are there books that contain them?

It is not possible to enumerate all the religious obligations and prohibitions in a few lines, as they are extensively detailed in the books of the scholars. Al-Akhdari's book on the jurisprudence of acts of worship mentions some of them: The first thing obligatory upon a legally responsible person is to correct his faith and to know what is necessary for him as an individual obligation, such as the rulings of prayer, purification, and fasting. He must also observe the limits set by Allah and immediately repent from sins, guard his tongue from obscenity and vile speech, guard his gaze from forbidden things, and guard all his limbs. He must also love for the sake of Allah and hate for His sake, and enjoin good and forbid evil. Forbidden for him are lying, backbiting, slandering, arrogance, self-admiration, showing off, envy, hatred, mockery, fornication, looking at a non-mahram (definition) woman and deriving pleasure from her speech, consuming people's wealth without their willing consent, and delaying prayers beyond their prescribed times. It is not permissible for him to associate with a dissolute person except out of necessity, nor should he seek the pleasure of creatures by incurring the wrath of the Creator, nor should he perform any action until he knows Allah's ruling on it and consults the scholars.
