What is the ruling on an imam who recites a quarter (of a juz') of the Qur'an in order in the 'Isha prayer until he completes the entire Qur'an after several months, then supplicates and distributes sweets on the day of completion, and what is the ruling on one who attends only on the day of completion?

Reciting the Quran is among the best acts of worship. It is desirable to complete the recitation of the Quran every time it is finished. This is what was praised in the Hadith (definition) as "the one who travels while resting," which means "the one who moves from the beginning of the Quran to its end, and every time he finishes, he starts again." However, if this is accompanied by adhering to a specific method or manner, it departs from the framework of the Sunnah (definition) into an additive innovation (bid'ah idafiyyah), such as adhering to specific forms that are not sanctioned by Islamic law.
