The answer

Snakes are harmful and dangerous animals. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded their killing everywhere and at all times, even during prayer. It is not permissible to keep them, or to buy and sell them, because what is forbidden to use is forbidden to possess. Moreover, what is obligatory to kill is forbidden to possess. There is no distinction between venomous and non-venomous snakes. Furthermore, raising them is a futile act with no benefit, and it may carry certain risks.
